  1. Hi Lori,
I certainly enjoyed this video about traditional and online education. Your concepts were effective and the strategies were integrated into classroom learning. I agree with you about the future of education for most children will include technology. Great video!

  2. You have great information on your video. I liked your use of audio over the transition slides as well. I am not too familiar with virtual worlds, so I also enjoyed the screen shots of various virtual worlds- it created a great visual.

  5. Lori,
I enjoyed your video and how it caught and kept my attention throughout. I also found it interesting that virtual worlds are tools that promote critical thinking skills. As I was researching the information for critical thinking, I read multiple articles about virtual worlds and online games. To touch on your comment, this was my first video and maybe I will eventually figure this stuff out.

  6. I thoroughly enjoyed your video. Because we teach students around the same age, are you able to use any of the virtual worlds that you found online? I would love to find programs that my students could use, just not sure if there are age appropriate programs out there. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Virtual Worlds to enhance learning :
    Lori:

I truly enjoyed watching your video and by the same token learning about virtual worlds. I find it interesting that the vast majority of virtual world users are between the ages of 10 and 15. I especially liked the segment on the philosophical foundations of virtual worlds where you introduced John Dewey, Lev Vygotsky, and other tenants of the constructivism theory.

On the quality of the video, I think you did an outstanding job in the selection and presentation of the content. You also did a wonderful job with a remarkable transition technique and introduction of new topics with titles on the screen. What I find to be a weakness is the absence of the author, Amy Lori, from the video. The Voice does not seem to be enough to attach an identity to the a presenter in a video. I was expecting to see you at the end, when you were introducing the keynote speaker. Another weakness seems to be the absence of actual references to virtual world sites .

Overall with Your video is a success. Congratulations

  8. Hi Lori,

Excellent post! You explained articulately the four metaphors of educators. Each metaphor represents a different role of an educator. According to Siemens (2008), the four roles of educators are master artist, network administrator, concierge, and curator. Each role has to be an important role for every educator. In my opinion, an educator should have the basic knowledge of each role of educators. I understand that mastering each role of educators is a challenging task for every teacher to accomplish. A primary responsibility of educators is that not only be aware of general principle of the shaping of actual experience by environing conditions, but that they also recognize in the concrete what surroundings conducive to having experiences that lead to growth (Dewey, 1938, p. 40). Moreover, I want to be able to help my students develop academically in any possible way by using technology or traditional method in the classroom. The ultimate goal is to be able to reach out to every student in classroom. I teach math and computer science in a college where many students have difficulties in understanding math and science concepts. I believe that the knowledge I will gain from my doctoral studies will help me to reach out and help my students to overcome their difficulties. So Lori, what is your opinion? Do you believe that an educator has to have a basic knowledge of the four roles of educators? Do you believe that your doctoral studies will help you reach out more to your students in the classroom?

    Thanks,
    Konstadinos
